The after school program here at Parkview offers a safe and welcoming environment for kids K-5, supervised by our trained staff. It runs from Monday through Thursday 2:30-5:30 and Fridays from 12:30-5. The program starts with the children meeting in the cafeteria for snack which is followed by recess.
After recess the kids split into their assigned groups and head for the classrooms for homework hall. They have one whole hour to complete their homework. Kids who do not complete their homework get time to finish during their second rotation in the After School classroom. During homework group leaders and America Reads are available to help ensure that all kids finish their assignments before heading home for the day.
For the second rotation of the day the groups each have a chance to participate in Computers, Gym, Enrichment, and Art activities that are planned by group leaders. Each group gets to participate in each activity as a rotation once a week on their scheduled day.
On Fridays for the first half the kids get to rotate twice before having snack at 3 pm. The two rotations are art or gym activities that go along with the weekly theme, which can be found on the monthly calendar. Fridays are usually the days we will do most of the monthly field trips. We also hire different people to come do activities with the kids such as Mad Science, the Drum Bus, or Best Friends Animal Society.
