Resource
The Special Education Department of the Salt Lake City Schools is responsible for providing the educational program of a variety of special needs students including students who need speech therapy. The majority of students who are eligible to participate in a resource program have average to above average cognitive ability. They just learn differently or need speech therapy. With the concern and cooperation of the classroom teacher and parents a child may be referred for additional educational services in resource. Several assessments are given to determine if the child qualifies for these services.
Through an individual educational plan (IEP) and carefully selected methods and materials students are provided opportunities to succeed. They receive additional instruction in a setting with a smaller group of students. A resource team at Parkview is made up of the parents, their child, the classroom teacher, the resource teachers and the principal.
