HAPPY LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!!

Here is our last video of the school year!

Chapter 8

https://youtu.be/NII0ZIfbJxQ

If you haven't done so, please send me a picture like the example I sent.  Balthazar's mom, Erin, is creating something very special for the kiddos.  Those who sent me their picture, I will send you the finish product.  They are amazing!

I just want to say thank you to all of you for being so supportive and helpful during the dismissal.  I hope the kiddos still learned something even though things were so different.  I am proud of all of them for working so hard!

Lexia and ST. Math will be available to work on throughout the summer.  I will also work on getting some things on to ConnectED that they can do if they want.  Look under their "To Do List".

If you have any questions about Lexia, ST. Math, ConnectED, or anything else, feel free to email me this summer.  I always check my email.  I will still be here for you and the kiddos!

Remember to return your packets and workbooks by tomorrow if you haven't done so. Please check for any library books or my reading books in their homework folders.   Also, if you  still have a school laptop, those need to be returned as well.

Please have a great and safe summer!  I look forward to seeing the kids in the halls next year!  Please tell them I will miss them and to read over the summer!

Only 3 more days! We can all do this! This week I will just be posting a video for the rest of our chapter book.  The kiddos will not have any paper assignments to complete, but we will discuss the book on our video conferences.

Make sure all packets and math workbook pages are complete.  These need to be turned in to the bucket in front of the school. Remember to put their first and last name on their work as well as their grade level.  Please try and keep them on Lexia and ST. Math this week. Many students are close to passing off Lexia and couple of kiddos are close to passing off ST. Math.  I know they can do it!  Let me know if you have any questions or need help with anything!

Happy Friday!

Here is our read a loud for tomorrow.  The kiddos will need to fill out the last four square.  When they are finished with all their packets and math workbook pages for all of the dismissal, you can go a head and turn them in at school.  The bucket will be in front of the school and left out all night.  Students should continue Lexia and ST. Math.  I am going through minutes, units, and Webex participation and putting together their prize bags.  I will send you an email when you can pick up their prize bags if your kiddo earned one.

I know many of you will be returning laptops next week.  The only videos I will be sending out is the last three chapters of our story. The students will not have an assignment to go with it.  If they can, please continue Lexia and ST. Math for the rest of the week and even into the summer!  We will continue with our Webex conferences.  I am hoping to see everyone on Wednesday for our last meeting of the year!

Please let me know if you have any questions!

I am attaching the video for today’s read aloud.  The students will only need to listen to the read a loud and think about the fab 4.  They will NOT need to fill out a four square. Make sure they are completing all their math assignments and Language Arts assignments.  Remember, all packets and math workbooks need to be turned in by June 3rd.  Also, please turn in their quilts and any library books or books from my classroom as well.

Just a reminder to take the survey that the district sent out to your email about how remote learning went for you and your kiddos.  Thank you to those who have already filled it out! We found out the survey for the students is only for students in grades 4-12.  So no need to worry about having your second grader fill one out.

I hope you all had a great long weekend!  We only have 8 more days to go.  We can do this!!

I am attaching the last math lesson for the year.  Please make sure students watch the video and complete their workbook page.  Their workbooks can be turned in to the bucket at the school when they are finished with all their work.  Make sure their name and grade level are written on the book.  Even though we will be finished with math lessons, please make sure students are spending a little extra time completing ST. Math.  I am hoping the students can get through the second-grade content in ST. Math.

Our language arts lessons will look a little different for the rest of the year.  I will be reading a chapter or two from a book EVERY day.  They will then fill out a worksheet every other day.  I walked them through the first worksheet, so they know how to complete the rest.    Students are still expected to do their Lexia minutes and units as well.

I have 2 friends who have passed off Lexia!  Congratulations to Poe and Jordan! I also have 1 friend who has passed off ST. Math!  Congratulations to Emma!  will have an extra special prize for you in your baggies! I hope to see more kiddos pass both Lexia and ST. Math this week!  I am watching closely! :)

If you haven’t, please have the students finish their quilt squares and turn them into the box at the school in the baggie they came in.

Good Morning!

I hope you all had a nice, long, and  beautiful weekend!  I hope students were able to get caught up during the catch up week last week!  Please let me know if you or your student needs any help with anything!

Starting this week, we will only be having two math lessons a week.  We will introduce a new lesson on Mondays and Wednesdays.  Your student will have two days to complete that lesson.  On Friday’s they can use that time to catch up on ST. Math minutes.

For the next couple of weeks, we will continue language arts lessons as normal. So, they will have a video every day for language arts.  Make sure your student is completing the packet throughout the week.

On Tuesday, April 28th, we will be starting ABC countdown to keep the kids engaged in school until the end of the year.  We will be doing activities starting with a letter of the alphabet each day.  Look for what each day is in our daily emails. Please let me know if you need help understanding it.

Please remember to be turning packets in when they are complete. You can turn these into the bucket where you pick up your lunches.  Make sure your student’s first name and last name are on the paper along with their grade.

I am attaching Tuesday, April 21 morning message video for the kiddos.  I am saying hello from the African Savanna today!

Please let me know if you have questions or need help with anything!

Monday, April 20, 2020

Happy Monday!

I hope you all had a great weekend!

This week we are taking a pause from our schedule.  I have heard from some of you that students need a little extra time to get caught up.  We are going to use this week as a catch up week for students who need to finish assignments from the last few weeks.  I have created a list of things that students who need need to get caught up need to do this week and a list of activities that students who are caught up should be working on this week.

I have created a morning message for students to watch.  It goes through how to access old stories and how to access some of the other activities if they are all caught up.  Make sure they watch the video!

Here is the Morning Message Video:

https://youtu.be/NhXCT4tqQ54

Students who need to get caught up:

  1. students should watch videos that they missed from the last two weeks.  I sent them through email and they can also be found on my webpage. If you need me to send any of the videos again, please let me know and I can do that.  Here is the link to my webpage as well.
    https://parkview.slcschools.org/users/brittanyhenry
  2. Complete packets from the last two weeks.
  3.  Read the stories that they missed to help complete the packet work.  I have directions on how to find the past stories in the video.  If you need help, please let me know and I can walk you through that.
  4. Students still need to complete 60 minutes of Lexia with 12 units and 60 minutes of ST. Math for the week, so make sure they are still working on those sites as well.
  5. I would also like to see them still read for 20 minutes a day and write a summary about what they read.

Students who are all caught up!

  1. Students need to do at least 60 minutes of Lexia with 12 units and 60 minutes of ST. Math for the week.
  2. I would like them to read for 20 minutes and complete a summary for each reading.
  3. Students can get on to ConnectED and play the phonics and grammar games.  I have showed them how to access these in today's video.
  4. I would also like them to read the 3 stories that we haven't read yet.  I have also shown them how to access those stories in the videos.

Please let me know if you have any questions about any of the assignments.

I also wanted to share that we had students on Webex last week and we did a community book share and it was so much fun.  We are trying to do something fun every Friday.  This Friday we will be sharing stories that the students have written.  I asked them to write a story about anything they want.  It can be real or made up.  It should have an introduction, at least 3 big ideas with elaboration, and a conclusion.  I am so excited to hear their stories this week.

Parkview has made another video to cheer kids on as they work from home!  Please share this with your kiddos

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0pteY0ciUs&feature=youtu.be

I will also be sending out another progress report on Lexia and ST. Math minutes and units from last week sometime this week.  Be watching for those.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns please let me know.  I am here to help!

Friday, April 17, 2020

Friday, April 10, 2020

Happy Friday!

We made it another week!

We will not have a video conference session on Friday mornings.  I feel that the one in the afternoon is enough and we still get in some community builders.  So hop on at 1:30 to ask questions and to have the kids see their friends!

We will not have a language arts video today.  The only thing that the students need to do for language arts today is the High Frequency Word Sentences in their packet and then they can finish  anything that they didn't finish throughout the week.

Here is their math video for today. I tried to add in a fun youtube song about even and odd, but the sound didn't come through for some reason. I didn't want to have to record the whole lesson. So,  I will also attach that link if the students want to watch the video on youtube.  The students can fast forward the video when they get to it in my lesson and then just watch the end.

Here is the link to my video:

 https://youtu.be/vWUtaXsVMKY

Here is the link to the EVEN and ODD video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kHtGbnYKGc

Make sure the students are working on their Lexia and ST. Math.  I will be checking their progress on Sunday and provide you with a progress report next week!

The last couple of weeks I had asked for students to do 100-150 minutes of Lexia with 20 units a week and 100-150 minutes of ST. Math a week.   Since the students are learning new content and doing more work.  I am just requiring that they do 60 minutes for the whole week with a total of 12 units for Lexia and a total of 60 minutes a week for ST. Math.  The students know how to check that.  If they miss a day of these online apps that's okay.  I will check their progress Sunday night.  I hope that will give you and the kiddos a little extra time.  If you have questions, let me know!  I hope to see some more of you today on Webex for our video conference!

It was so good to see those kiddos who were able to get on the video conference yesterday!  I was so excited to see them and it totally made my day!

As someone asked in our meeting today, "Do we have to get on these conferences every day?" The answer to that is, no you do not.  However, I would like to check in with you at least once a week.  I noticed today that a lot of students hadn't watched the videos before joining the conference and that is absolutely okay!  I think today was a great day to get in other questions that needed to be answered and a way for the students to see their friends.  The goal with the video conferences is to be able to ask questions about the days lessons so watching the videos beforehand is important.  Asking other questions during this time is absolutely okay as well.

Now I realize that it may be hard for some parents to get on and ask questions at 1:30.  I am happy to schedule another time to meet with you.  I am meeting with another parent at 6:00 tonight.  Please let me know if you need to meet at a different time and we can make that work.  Also let me know if you want to do conference with just me to ask specific questions for your student.  We can arrange that as well.

Right now, in our daily schedule, we have a community meeting time with the kiddos to be at 9:00 on Friday's.  That information is going to change because we are not using Zoom.  I am thinking that if students want to see their friends, we can do a quick community builder before we do questions at 1:30 everyday and then we wouldn't have to have two separate meetings.  Kids could jump on any day during that time and we could do both at the same time?  Does that sound okay with everyone?  If I see a need that multiple students need a later time, I can do two conferences that day.  Just let me know your needs.  I am happy to make this work for you guys!

Here are their videos for tomorrow!  Let me know if you have questions on anything.  Thanks for being so patient with me as I learn about all this stuff too.  You guys are awesome!

We have learned that teachers live Zoom lessons are being hacked.  Right now we are going to have to cancel our video conferences until we can find a secure way to do so.  After students watch the math and language arts lesson videos, you are more than welcome to call me and email me with any questions you or your student have about the lesson.  I will work on finding us a new platform to have some video conferences.  I am so sad I wont be able to see the kiddos on Monday.  Tell them I said hello and I sure miss them!

Look for their math and language arts video Sunday night.

As always, let me know if you have questions. :)

I am attaching a video that Parkview made for our amazing students.  Feel free to show the kiddos!

Welcome Back From Spring Break!!

Students will continue to work on their packet that was handed out a couple of week ago.  I am working on getting new packets finished to start April 6th – May 1st. Parkview will be in contact with you when they are ready for pickup.

Teaching is an absolute passion of mine!  I am so excited to work with you and your child this year.  It’s going to be a year full of fun, adventures, and lots of learning, and I can’t wait to see what the year has in store with us! It is my mission to instill a love for learning in my students.  I want my students to develop a desire to become lifelong learners.

I have lived in Utah most of my life.  I grew up with 3 older sisters and 1 younger sister.  Some of my hobbies include; cooking, crafting, and going to the beach anytime I can. I received my education degree from Westminster College, in Salt Lake City.  I have my endorsements in Teaching English as a Second Language, Math, and I am in the process of getting my reading endorsement.  This will be my fifth year teaching 2nd grade.  Before that, I taught 1st grade for three years.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  It is so important to keep communication open between us.  We will be a team to make sure your child gets the education that they deserve.  I look forward to a great year together!
